ASL Fluent Community Support Worker - Burnaby
Cheshire Homes Society of BC is recruiting for an ASL Fluent - Casual Community Support Workers in the Burnaby area.
We have a client that requires an American Sign Language (ASL) Fluent Community Support Worker in Burnaby. The successful candidate will be paired with this client and have the opportunity to pick up additional English speaking clients based on contract availability.
In consultation with the Program Manager, the Community Support Worker provides life skills training and support services for persons with disabilities, including acquired brain injuries, regarding issues such as personal care and other aspects of daily living, access to community leisure programs, housekeeping duties, planning and preparing meals, booking medical appointments and organizing and supporting a client to follow through with a weekly schedule with one or more brain injured clients living in the community. The Community Support Worker empowers the client(s) to perform all aspects of daily living as independently as possible, providing support and intervention where necessary.
Qualifications:
- Recent related experience working with the brain injured or other disabled population
- Recent related experience in behaviour modification techniques
- Current certification and documents in emergency first aid or equivalent and CPR level A
- Relevant post secondary education or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Proficient in written and spoken English
- Class 5 Driver's License
- The use of a personal vehicle to drive to clients homes and drive clients to appointments and other outings.
- Fluent in ASL
Starting Wage: $27.92/hour
Hours: sessions are typically 1.5 - 3 hours scheduled between 8 am - 6 pm, Monday to Friday, based on available client contracts
