Supported Living - Community Support Services

Step 6 -Community Support Services

The CSS office is based out of Abbotsford; clients reside in Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Langley, Abbotsford, Aldergrove, Mission, Chilliwack, and Hope (other areas are considered where staffing permits).

Community Support Services is the last step before full independent living. Clients are supported within their own home and in their home community as they work towards their identified goals. The hours of support vary, tailored to the clients’ needs and can range from 2 to 20 hours per week.

Community Support Services was initially established in 1993 to meet the increasing need for in-home and community based rehabilitation services.  The purpose of the program is to provide the necessary supports to enable individuals to live in the community as independently as possible.  While Community Support Workers (CSW’s) are permitted to drive clients during their sessions, clients are encouraged to use community resources that are sustainable such as HandyDart and Translink whenever possible.

CSW’s travel between clients providing the same type of service seen in other programs with a strong emphasis on increasing independence, recreation and community integration.
